The lifesaving drug, insulin, is used by millions of people with diabetes both in hospitals, and within a community setting. It is a very safe and effective treatment when used appropriately, but its incorrect administration can cause significant harm to patients.

Our ‘Safe Use of Insulin’ course aims to provide learners with an increased awareness and improved understanding of insulin. It promotes its safe and effective use by outlining common errors associated with insulin, and provides information on how these problems can be avoided.

All different types of practitioners working within the healthcare sector are able to complete this course. However, there are no entry requirements; therefore the information is applicable to any individual who may be required to administer insulin.

The course takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete, with the length of time taken depending on how quickly the learner is able to study and absorb information. There is no time limit in place meaning the learner can proceed as quickly or as slowly as they would like.

Once the course is completed, learners will be able to identify possible side effects of insulin and will gain a greater understanding of how these can be treated effectively. Learners will also have increased knowledge about a range of injection devices and the different insulin’s that are available, and will be able to outline the differences in administering insulin. The course gives the learner the opportunity to not only refresh their knowledge, but also to build upon it.

Upon completion of the course you will be able to download a Virtual College certificate to demonstrate how the course has enhanced your knowledge and understanding. Also The Safe Use of Insulin Course has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines, and the certificate will display this information also.
